"Stage
One is proud to be one of the founding members of the Greater
Louisville Fund for the Arts. Over the decades, the Fund
for the Arts has consistently and substantially supported
Stage One, Louisville's nationally acclaimed professional
theatre for young audiences.
Not only does the Fund provide financial support, they help
spread the word to many arts patrons and donors about Stage
One's place in Louisville's remarkable arts community. Stage
One has won awards, performed on Broadway, toured to Russia,
and is considered to be one of the top children's theaters
in the nation.
Both
Stage One and the Fund wish to improve the lives of children
in our community through the arts. Stage One is able to
continue producing quality programming for young people
in part because the support the Fund gives is unrestricted,
thus allowing Stage One to cover expenses that many grants
and sponsorships will not.
100%
of Stage One's employees have given to the Fund for the
Arts during the last three campaigns. In the spirit of mutual
cooperation we hope you will join with the Greater Louisville
Fund for the Arts and Stage One with a contribution today."
Stage One, A Professional Theatre for Young Audiences is
dedicated to the entertainment and development of young
audiences. The oldest theatre in Louisville, STAGE ONE was
founded in 1946 as the Louisville Children’s Theatre
and three years later became a founding member of the Fund
for the Arts. The organization’s name was changed
in 1978 to STAGE ONE: The Louisville Children’s Theatre,
referring both to the place where plays are performed and
to the entry level of the audience.
A
leader in arts education, the theatre’s educational
services consist of in-service training for teachers, classroom
workshops and residencies and an improved play guide connecting
drama/arts to educational curriculum. STAGE ONE became the
first theatre in the field of young audiences to produce
a regular forum for the development and promotion of new
plays with the creation of the Critic’s Circle in
1987. STAGE ONE founded the national consortium, The New
Generation Play Project. This consortium commissions plays
for young audiences from award-winning playwrights, such
as Michael Weller, which resulted in the world premiere
of his play DOGBRAIN in 1996. Each year over 100,000 young
people, their families and educators enjoy productions presented
by STAGE ONE, recognized as one of the nation’s leading
professional theaters for young audiences. BBC is presently
filming several of its productions for international distribution.
