FUND FOR THE ARTS KICKS OFF FIRST PHASE OF ANNUAL CAMPAIGN

Louisville, KY – Fund for the Arts, the oldest united arts fund in America, kicks off the First Phase of its 2004 campaign during a lunch session held at the Kentucky Museum for Arts + Design on October 22, 2003. This year’s campaign theme is Just Say Yes! The Fund’s 2004 campaign goal is $7.7 million.

2004 Fund for the Arts Campaign Chairman David Brooks, Chairman & CEO of Stock Yards Bank & Trust Company states, “This kick off represents an exciting time for the arts in our community. A renewed effort is needed to support the Fund’s 25 member groups and programs. We look forward to a successful campaign season as citizens continue to respond enthusiastically to our call for support.”

Allan Cowen, President and CEO of the Fund for the Arts, adds that “now more than ever, the Arts need the support of the community if they are going to continue to provide quality visual arts, performances and educational programming for our children.”
Cowen emphasized that the Arts are a major contributor to the local economy, providing more than $100 in annual economic impact, and that “the Fund for the Arts helps keep the arts alive in our city. More than 1.5 million people enjoy the arts here every year.”

The First Phase of the 2004 Fund for the Arts Campaign solicits Board members, major gifts, corporate, and individual donors. On February 4, 2004 the Fund will kick off the public phase of the Campaign including employee workplace giving from over 28,000 area employees. As a result of the broad-based support for the Fund, Louisville enjoys the largest per capita giving in the arts of any city in America. The fundraising campaign runs from October 2003 to June 30, 2004.

Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
