Fund for the Arts Kicks-off First Phase of 2003 Campaign

$7,640,000! flashed across the screen as the Fund for the Arts kicked off the first phase of its 2003 Fundraising Campaign. With over 120 people in attendance on Wednesday, October 16, the 25th floor of the Humana building was full of excitement and anticipation as the early morning session began to unfold. Music from the Orleans’s melody of “You’re Still the One” set the stage for the Fund’s theme ‘You’re the One’ to make this all happen.

“As our city and county governments merge, Louisville is poised to assume its position as a major American city. We continue to receive national recognition for our commitment to using the arts as a central element in economic planning and urban redevelopment. It remains critical for all of us to continue to move forward with pride,” states Mike McCallister, President & CEO, Humana, and the Fund’s 2003 Campaign Chairman.

The First Phase of the Campaign involves Corporate and Individual solicitations. Volunteers from various sectors of the community including financial institutions, healthcare, insurance, legal, service organizations, professionals and individuals help raise the bar each year by personally asking for pledges.

“It’s time to get excited. Now more than ever, people want to help…and we need their help. Being a volunteer with the Fund for the Arts gives us a chance to help our entire community” affirms David Brooks, President & CEO of Stock Yards Bank and the 2003 Corporate Campaign Chairman.

The event also included a special musical performance by the talented children of Music Theatre of Louisville.

Volunteers now have the ultimate task of completing the donation process. 35 teams will be hitting the fundraising trail asking for help in reaching the goal of $7.64 million. The first phase of the campaign will conclude on Nov. 27, 2002.

Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
