FOR THE ARTS IS ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR WHITTENBERG SCHOLARSHIP
Deadline
Extended for the Acceptance of Applications for the Prestigious
Whittenberg Scholarship for Students Wishing to Pursue Advanced
Study in the Arts
Louisville,
KY – The Fund for the Arts announced that applications
for the Whittenberg Scholarship are now being accepted and
the deadline to apply has been extended to Friday, March
24, 2006.
Established
in 1987 by Joan Whittenberg, the William Tolbert Whittenberg
Scholarship for Excellence was designed to enable gifted
students to pursue advanced study or a professional career
in the performing arts. To be eligible, applicants must
be between the ages of 16 and 20 and planning a career in
the performing arts. The award may only be used for the
support of advanced professional training in the arts and
will be between $2000 and $5000 for one year.
To
apply, students must submit an online application form found
at www.fundforthearts.com under the Grants and Scholarships
link. In addition to the application, students must have
two letters of recommendation from appropriate instructors
or mentors and an essay stating career goals, scholarship
need and intended use of the award. For additional information

Finalists
for the award will be notified April 7, 2006 and will be
required to audition in front of the Whittenberg Scholarship
Committee in late May. Recipients will be announced after
June 1, 2006.
Fund
for the Arts
The
Fund for the Arts coordinates the Whittenberg Scholarship
process and provides programming and administrative support
to twenty-four member groups and programs, including grants
to nearly 200 community organizations and schools, throughout
the Louisville, Kentucky region. The Fund for the Arts is
the oldest united arts fund in the country and has raised
over $100 million in the community since its establishment
in 1949.
