SWING INTO AN EVENING OF DINNER AND DANCING WITH THE INAUGURAL NeXt STAGE EVENT,

THURSDAY, MARCH 30

Fund for the Arts Young Arts Professionals Group Hosts Fundraising Event at Brown Theatre Event Featuring Dave Mehl's Swing Street Band, Menu Samplings from Local Restaurants and Live & Silent Auctions

Louisville, KY — The Fund for the Arts newly formed young professionals group called NeXt is hosting a fundraising event on Thursday, March 30 from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. on the stage of the Brown Theatre, 315 W. Broadway. The event, called “The NeXt Stage” is the first for the NeXt group which is a new Fund for the Arts initiative designed to expand arts leadership in Louisville. Funds raised during the event will be used to provide ongoing support to the NeXt program.

The evening will have a swing dance theme featuring live music by Dave Mehl's Swing Street Big Band. Catering will be provided by local restaurants and bars such as Vincenzo's, Artemisia and Lilly's who have donated some of their most recognizable menu items. Live and silent auctions will also be a part of the evening. Swing dancing demonstrations will be featured throughout the evening and experienced swing dance instructors will teach those wanting to learn popular swing dance steps.

The NeXt group consists of more than 70 members who meet monthly to learn about a different Fund for the Arts member organization. Started in the summer of 2005, the NeXt group has had meetings and “working sessions” with Arts organizations such as Stage One, where they learned basic acting techniques and learned about staging a production from Artistic Director, J. Daniel Herring and Actors Theatre, where they experienced a backstage tour and to learn how the special effects in Dracula are staged. NeXt members are also participating in the Fund for the Arts annual allocation process serving as liaisons to each member organization.

Most young professionals who are a part of the 2005-06 NeXt group were nominated from their companies in an initial application round in 2005. Those interested in participating in the 2006-07 NeXt group are encouraged to call the Fund for the Arts at (502) 582-0100 to inquire about the application process.

Tickets for “The NeXt Stage” event are $40 per person and $70 per couple. Reservations may be made by calling the Fund for the Arts at (502) 582-0100 or visiting www.fundforthearts.com .

Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
