Louisville Youth Choir, a nonprofit performing arts organization, was established in 1967 to create a passion for singing among young people. LYC annually draws around 100 youth from throughout the metropolitan area, and its musical repertoire includes many styles and cultures, including major classics and modern works, often performed with soloists and orchestras. Open auditions are held seasonally throughout the year, and weekly rehearsals culminate in more than five public performances annually. The Choir's goal is to enhance musical education and performance experiences for students throughout the region and currently includes students from approximately 40 area public, private and Catholic schools. www.theyouthchoir.org

The Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet provides operation support funding for The Louisville Youth Choir Inc. with state tax dollars and federal funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.

Sacred Heart School for the Arts, a member of Sacred Heart Schools, sponsored by the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville, is fully-accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and provides opportunities for students of all ages who wish to pursue careers in the performing arts or who simply want to enrich their lives through music, dance, drama or the visual arts. SHSA programs are open to the public, complement those offered by other schools on campus, and encourage students to explore meanings, associations and interpretations of their encounters with the arts. In addition, arts integration classes taught by SHSA faculty during the school day are an important component of the educational offerings of the other three Sacred Heart schools. Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
