Teacher Arts Grant

Welcome to the 2008-09 Fund for the Arts National City Teacher Arts Grant online application.

The arts play a critical role in a child’s education. Beyond the inherent value of the thrill and excitement of experiencing a live professional performance or becoming engaged in creating their own painting or sculpture, students have much to gain from being exposed to the arts. The arts entertain, enlighten and educate. They help build important skills such as reading, writing and math. And, national studies show that the arts can be a key link in developing positive social behaviors and keeping students engaged in school.

Unfortunately, with tight budgets, the arts are often the first curriculum to be cut back in schools. Monies for field trips dry up. Our society and our culture suffer as our children are no longer exposed to the many benefits the arts can bring to their lives. National City Bank and the Fund for the Arts hope to address this serious problem by offering funding for ticket subsidies and in-school residencies with Fund member groups through the Teacher Arts Grant Program.

Before starting your application, please click on the link to the attached National City Bank Teacher Arts Grant brochure for a list of guidelines and participating members along with programs, pricing and contact information. Links to each of the member groups are also included in the brochure for additional information on performances, classes and in-school residencies.

This program is also made possible with funding from Alcoa Foundation, William E. Barth Foundation, Crawford Charitable Foundation and Metro Louisville Government.

Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
