"The Louisville Bach Society has benefited from Fund for the Arts with the support of financial grants, both general and specific. The Fund has been especially helpful in supporting partnerships between the Bach Society and other Fund organizations, including the Louisville Orchestra, Louisville Youth Choir and West Louisville Boys Choir.
By recognizing and supporting a relatively small group such as the Louisville Bach Society, the Fund for the Arts has underlined one of the basic strengths of this community: diversity in the arts.

A strong orchestra, ballet, opera and theater presence is certainly necessary for any community striving to be prominent in the arts. However, for decades, Louisville has extended its arts image to include Shakespeare, musical theater, and the choral/orchestral repertoire presented by the Bach Society.

It has also included groups which encourage the participation of young people - instrumentally, vocally, and in theater arts. The inclusion of this variety of arts entities under one umbrella of funding and support has proved to be one of the Fund's most valuable contributions."

The Louisville Bach Society was founded in 1964 by Melvin and Margaret Dickinson. Since then, the Bach Society has been performing masterpieces of choral music, not only works by Johann Sebastian Bach, but also Brahms, Haydn, Mozart, Rheinberger, and several contemporary composers.

Performances throughout Kentucky and neighboring states have been a custom of the Bach Society since its beginning, and have been enthusiastically received in smaller communities from Pikeville to Indianapolis. Children’s concerts are also popular and taped concerts have appeared on national television. Singers in the Bach Society come from many areas and occupations: students, doctors, attorneys, teachers, social workers, and housewives. Members of the Louisville Orchestra supply accompaniment for the concerts. The Bach Society recently received an invitation from the International Bach Society to perform in Leipzig, Germany.

presents

Launchings

Resolution and Resolve by Alex Schmitz

This energetic group of seven young artists is at a formative point in their careers. Each artist presented is developing an individual voice, and as expected, the work is visceral and intuitive. All of the artists have recently finished their Bachelor of Fine Arts and are either enrolled in graduate school or working in their studios, and outside of the academic environment.

As such, it is a challenging period for these young professionals. The seven artists featured in Launchings are off to a strong career start – each demonstrating the passion and talent required for professional success in the visual arts. Launchings is a small exhibit packed with big ideas, powerful images, and a "sneak peek" into the future of visual arts in Kentuckiana.
